Trip to Melbourne - May 15, 2012

About a couple weeks ago, I had the best day I've had in Australia so far. We made a trip into the city of Melbourne. I got to see what an amazing city it is. I immediately fell in love with it. They have so much awesome architecture, a very convenient metro system and lots to see/do. So we started by taking a walk around the city. I got to see the beautiful Yarra River and lots of neat buildings. I took a picture in front of the tallest lookout building in Australia (or something of that nature). There's this giant block we covered that had so many neat things to see! We saw tonnes of good places to eat, and a huge store just full of every magazine you could think of. We also found this lollly store, that has a few walls of candy. You get a big container and just fill it with whatever kinds you want. This place had a lot of candies from home like Runts that I definitely miss.

Awesome

Loved this store!

Melbourne is a very busy place, kind of like Toronto, but I like it. There's a lot of people everywhere, both locals and tourists. The neat thing is they have information people stationed on street corners to hand out maps and help people find their way. I've also come to realize that Melbourne is very big on Art. There are a lot of statues everywhere and people creating art.

Busy busy!

One of the things I wanted to see most when I went to Melbourne was the popular Flinders Station, and I did! It's the main train station there, but it's really  neat looking. It's really big and is all golden in colour. Just before lunch, we hit a shop that had all kinds of neat things in it. I tried on one of those hats that people wear in England and liked it. I probably would have bought it if I had somewhere to wear it. I feel like you could spend several days going to all the different shops to see what they have. For lunch we went to this great hot dog place that had lots of delicious hot dogs to choose from. They also had a whole window of donuts to choose from. It seems that Australians love their donuts, because I see them literally everywhere in Australia!

Fun hat (I tried on that green jacket for fun as well)

Lots of delicious looking donuts

After lunch, we jumped on the city circle tram. This train goes in a loop around the core of the city and is free. The ride lasts about an hour, but is a really great way to see what's in the city. On the ride, we saw cool statues, the Victorian Parliament building, a pretty fountain, and lots of other sights/buildings.

After the tram ride, we went shopping, which is one of my favourite things to do. We found one of my new favourite stores, which is called Forever New. I loved everything in the store, but unfortunately it is very expensive. Thankfully though, we found an outlet of that store in a second mall. We did a bunch of shopping, and then went to the Crown Casino. For dinner we went to a buffet place called Kitchen Workshop, which has a lot of delicious foods to choose from. I definitely ate a lot of food and dessert there. Finally, to finish the night off, we sat by the Yarra River where they have a neat flame show that happens either every half an hour or hour.  It was a great end to a great day.
